Chapter Twenty-One

Olivia

I didn’t know where I was going. I only knew that I needed to follow it. The urge led me into the woods not far from the VMF house. In the clearing, I found Angelina waiting for me.

I was torn. Part of me wanted to throw my arms around her and thank her for what she had done to me. The other part wanted to choke her for what she had done to not only me, but Kristin and Gabe, too.

“How did you do that?” I asked her.

“I’m your sire, Olivia; if I call you, you will come.”

“Anytime you want me, all you have to do is call me, and I’ll come?”

“Yes.”

“You know, most people use a phone to call someone, not some blood-heating trick.”

She sighed, and her dark-blue eyes flared slightly. “We don’t have time for this. I need to help you do something. It’s not going to be long before they figure out you’re gone and come to find you. We need to be ready.”

“Ready for what?” I asked. While I was grateful for her having turned me, not that I liked the fact that she killed me, I wasn’t ready to do her bidding quite yet.

“They are going to come looking for you, Olivia, and they are going to want to hurt me.”

“Yeah, but they won’t. They know that if they kill you, then Gabe and I will die.”

Her eyes widened, and the shade of blue lightened. “So you bound yourself to him, the one who claimed you.”

“Yes, his name is Gabriel.”

“Good, then there is less of a chance that they will kill me before I can convince them to help.”

“Yeah, I’m not sure they are going to want to help you, Angie. I mean, you’re kind of on the shit list, and Kristin is not real excited about having a family reunion. In fact, I think she would rather you be dust at her feet than to rehash old times with daddy-o.”

She rolled her eyes and flicked her long red hair over her shoulder. “If she kills me, she will kill you and Gabriel.”

“She knows that, and that is your saving grace. She’s not going to hurt you for fear of hurting me.”

I saw her swallow nervously and realized that she wasn’t as confident as she appeared. In fact, I could feel her nervousness in the air. “Okay, I need you to do something to protect us. I am going to trust you when you say that she won’t hurt us, and I know that Gabriel won’t either if he cares for you, but I don’t trust the rest of them.”

“I wouldn’t either,” I replied dryly. “You have pissed off a lot of people.”

“Who’s at the house?” she asked.

“Kris is at work, but Julian, Gabe, Cameron, and Alex were at the house.”

“Cameron is there?” she asked almost excitedly.

“Yes, and Donovan and Lindsey are on their way here.”

A look of relief washed over her. “Good, that’s good. They can help me explain all of this.”
